Description: The Quintek Tree Ring Scanner (QTRS) passes thin strips from increment cores through an accurately collimated soft X-ray beam using a precisely controlled stepping system and linear bearing carriage. A video image of the surface of the core is taken using the same linear stepping system. Both the high-resolution video image and the X-ray density graph are displayed on the same scale on the screen. A cursor connecting the two images allows the operator to identify features and areas on the core and to locate and determine the density from exactly corresponding areas on the density graph.
QMS has developed a complete automatic user friendly software analysis system that counts tree rings and computes incremental average densities. The QMS software will automatically mark the boundaries of each growth ring and the break between early wood and late wood within each ring. The operator may edit the marking using on screen editing tools. A complete printout listing ring counts, ring years from core date, radial growth by year, early wood and late wood percentages, early wood and late wood density, ring density, and average core density is generated. All scans are automatically archived. The system produces precisely structured ASCII data files for further data analysis. The system includes a precise calibration feature that may be used to provide quick and accurate calibration to density for new species or materials. The software may be networked to allow data analysis on remote computers.
The QTRS scanner is also capable of providing fast, detailed density scans of many different materials, including samples with glue lines, laminate overlays, composite panels, foams, and other materials. QMS can provide detailed technical support and help for your density scanning needs.
